Direct your taxes to our parents!

Thanks to the newly passed ECCA Act in Washington, a major opportunity is now open for our community. Beginning in 2027, you can donate $1,700 of your tax bill to a local scholarship fund and receive a full dollar-for-dollar tax credit — this is a credit, not a deduction!

A new Crown Heights Scholarship Granting Organization has been established to collect these funds, which will be distributed to benefit all Crown Heights children attending any and all of our schools. Achdus in action.

FAQ

  1. Under the ECCA Act, any taxpayer can allocate $1,700 from their federal tax liability to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).

How it works:

  • Parents can apply for a scholarship grant through the SGO.
  • The scholarship amount is not fixed at $1,700—it depends on the funds available within the SGO.
  • Once approved, the scholarship grant is paid directly to the school, reducing the family’s tuition balance.

An SGO is a state-approved, non-profit organization that receives these allocated funds and distributes them as scholarships to eligible students.

You can redirect $1,700 of your federal tax bill to the Crown Heights Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). This amount will count as if you paid your federal taxes.

A tax credit directly reduces the amount of tax you owe, dollar for dollar. In this case, the $1,700 you give to the SGO will be treated as if you already paid that portion of your federal taxes. A tax deduction, on the other hand, lowers your taxable income, which indirectly reduces the amount of tax you owe.

All boys and girls in grades K-12 attending Crown Heights schools are eligible to benefit. The scholarships will be distributed based on eligibility and the total funds collected by the SGO.

Starting January 1, 2027, you can visit the SGO’s website and make a payment of $1,700. When it’s time to file your taxes, you’ll indicate that you already contributed this amount to the SGO, and it will be credited as if you paid that portion of your federal taxes.

Please note: You cannot direct these funds to pay for your own child’s tuition.

Fill out this form to commit to participating in the program.

Families with an annual household income below $280,000.

Absolutely not. Tuition only increases when the actual cost of running the school goes up not because of scholarship programs. The schools are fully committed to ensuring that every dollar you receive from the Scholarship Organization will go directly, dollar for dollar, toward reducing your agreed-upon tuition. You will receive the full benefit of your scholarship.

No, there is no set limit. The more the Scholarship Fund raises, the more and larger scholarships it can distribute. That’s why it's so important for as many people as possible to participate. The greater the support, the greater the impact for our families.

In theory—yes. If we come together as a community and maximize participation, encouraging as many people as possible to direct their $1,700 tax credit to the Crown Heights Scholarship Fund, we can significantly reduce tuition—and potentially eliminate the burden entirely. That’s why it’s so important for everyone to get involved and inspire others to join. The more we raise, the greater the relief for every family.
